PBL

This term our Project Based Learning (PBL) has been about design and the big question was; How can we use a Steam approach to make a marketable product?

First we learned what STEAM stood for.
S for Science
T for Technology
E for Engineering
A for the Arts
and M for Maths
Then we were given challenges. The first to make a chair using newspaper, string and straws that was able to hold a figure made out of multi-link blocks.
Then; make a table that was able to balance MnMs for the team. We were much better at the second challenge because we had a reasonable sizes table that could hold 4 MnMs

In Literacy we learned to write up science experiments and to write a technology report using the design process of ask, imagine, plan, create, improve and share.

Our next step was to form teams and ask ourselves the big question again.
How can we use a Steam approach to make a marketable product? Our aim was to create enough products or experiences and sell it to raise money for charity.

We had a game called bean bag toss and you had get it in the middle and then you would get a prize.
 Reflection

My highlight from this PBL was getting to work with other people instead of my friends.

Next time I would  do the same because it was fun.

STEAM

Hi and welcome back to my blog. In tumu hub we have been doing a thing called STEAM.
our big question was  How can we use a STEAM approach to make a marketable product?

In my group we have five people Hannah, Ethan, Lucas, Gianna and me (Paige)
We are  doing a toss so the aim pf the game is to get a bean bag or a hand ball   Lip scrubs and stress balls. Or you can buy a lip scrub for 2-3 dollars

The Tumu Performance

Hi and welcome back to my blog.This term our Project Based Learning (PBL) has been about cultural stories and the big question was:

What is the significance in the 21st Century of our Cultural stories?

First we brainstormed what culture is and came up with lots of ideas. Culture is like where you are from or Traditional foods, dances or sports or clothes  . 

Then we thought about our own culture and talked to our parents about our traditions and heritage. I wrote a post about my family and things we like to do.

In Literacy we read and discussed myths and legends from around the world then we concentrated on Maori legends. I read Hatupatu and the bird women and Maui and the sun  I retold the legend of Maui and the sun in my own words.

We made a performance about the story Battle of the Mountains. Some students wrote the script, some students took on the job of making all the artwork, some worked hard on organising the music and others took on the role of bringing the story alive with dance and drama.

Reflection: 

For our production I contributed by helping with dance’s and doing 2 dance’s  

What I learned about working with others was that you should never give up even if you can’t do the thing that others can do.

HI and welcome back to my blog. In my reading group we had to make a flying machine that can fly. We did a myth called Hatupatu and the bird women. I did in a group of 5 and the people I worked with were Caitlin, Olivia, Ruby, Maia and me. 

In reading I have been wondering….

How can I deepen my understanding of what I have read through applying my own ideas to the story.

I read the story….. Hatupatu and the bird women.

It was about….. A bird women. Hatupatu is the man who got stuck in a cave.

We then had to create…. A poster and we had to make a flying thingy.

This was my idea…. Wings.

I choose to do this because….He had all of the materials in the cave.

Welcome back

In year five/six hub we have been doing team building. My team started off pretty good and then started to argue then we talked it out and then we agreed. 

1.We did cup stacking
it was a big challenge.
We had to use rubber
bands,paper cups and 
string.

     
2.We had to build a tower with spaghetti and marshmollows
